Audit and Protocols

The practice looks regularly at the care it provides for certain chronic health problems. Protocols set out the care we plan to provide. We aim to identify when our care does not meet the standards we have set and to improve by targeting those patients for whom care could be improved.

With the advent of the new contract for general practice in 2004 many of the audits we had previously done have been included as part of the contract provisions and these are shown in the the new contract section.

Increasingly protocols and guidelines are set nationally by organisations like the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and locally by primary care organisations like NHS North of Tyne. We follow these guidelines and a selection of the guidance we are using to manage chronic conditions is included on the links here.
