WELCOME HOME AND CONGRATULATIONS!

We are happy to help you look after yourself and your family.

We know you will have plenty to think about, but we need to remind you about some things.

You will need to register your child with a family doctor. When you go to register the birth at the registry office, you will be given a pink form for this. First fill the form in, then, when you can, give it to a member of the surgery team.

We believe that your own doctor is in the best position to observe and assess the development of your child. We will hold the medical records, we are able to prescribe and treatment he or she may need, and we will be the ones who will see your child when he or she is ill. We can also refer for specialist advice if need be.

We hold regular weekly Child Health Clinics at your surgery with doctor, health visitor, and practice nurse. This is a good opportunity to ask about problems, and, of course to have your child weighed, vaccinated and assessed for normal development at the appropriate times (sometimes called paediatric or child surveillance). Our clinic is held every Tuesday afternoon from 1pm for weighing and from 1.30pm for vaccinations and checks. The doctor has to visit patients so is not in the surgery until 1.30pm. Ill patients will be coming to the afternoon surgery from 3.30 so it's best to come before 2.30pm. Please if you think your child may have something infectious don't come to the Child Health Clinic-others may not wish to catch it!

Mother's Checks
During the first 10 days following the birth the midwife will visit you. The doctor will call as well. A full check will be done at the surgery 6 weeks after the birth. Please make an appointment with the doctor and the nurse for this. Sometimes this check is done at hospital.
