What's New on the Website | Practice News

Welcome to the Newburn Surgery web site.

We hope you will find the pages interesting. In addition to information about the practice, the site contains some further detail about the work that we do. Below is a list of recent additions to the site.

May 2012

  • "Did Not Attend" Policy.  Around 93% of our patients attend pre-booked appointments or give us sufficient notice of their need to change or cancel an appointment.  But 7% do not and thus waste about a week of clinical time a month.  These are valuable appointments which could be allocated to other patients. We have debated this problem with our Patient Group and agreed a new policy to try to drive down the number of missed appointments.  A copy is at this link.

  • Following Department of Health guidelines which require a geographic element in the names of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG), ours has been renamed from Newcastle Bridges CCG to Newcastle West CCG.

April 2012

  • It has been recently announced that planning permission is shortly to be sought for a new combined surgery, library and pharmacy on the site behind the Newburn Community Centre.

  • The information page has been updated to reflect changes to our patient brochure.  Copies of these are available in the surgery.

  • Our newly agreed Patient Charter is on the Patient Participation Group page.

March 2012

  • Local practice patient survey results and patient participation report added to the Patient Participation Group page.

  • Map of the Practice boundary added to the Practice Information page.

February 2012

  • Details of the Department of Health initiative to record service in the Armed Forces can be accessed via the Home Page

  • Announcement that the Practice will "go live" with the NHS Summary Care Record on 13 March 2012.  Details are accessible via the Home Page.

November 2011

  • The latest patient survey for Newburn Surgery, which has been conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Department of Health, has been extracted from the Patient Survey web site and placed in the Practice News section.  These surveys are conducted entirely independently of the Practice and demonstrate our performance against other GP Practices in Newcastle PCT and against national averages.

  • The Practice Patient Participation Group has now been established with 8 volunteer members.  The inaugural meeting of this Group will take place on 5 December 2011. We continue to seek volunteers to participate and if you are interested please see the Practice News page.
  • At patient request, and to reduce waiting times, from 29 November 2011 it will be necessary to make an appointment for your baby's injections and 8 week checks.  Contact reception as normal and they will co-ordinate your appointments with the Doctor, Practice Nurse and Health Visitor.  The Health Visitor only will run a "drop in" clinic from 2.00 pm until 2.20pm.
